Hovenier has reiterated that the United States is facing several challenges with the current Government of Kosovo, which he said have affected the quality of the mutual partnership. However, Hovenier emphasized that the relationship with the Government does not dictate the relationship with the people of Kosovo
The American ambassador in Pristina, Jeffrey Hovenier, has repeated on Wednesday the conclusion about the fading of the quality in the relations between the Government of Kosovo and the United States of America (USA).
Hovenier has emphasized that several actions, undertaken by the current government of the Prime Minister, Albin Kurti, have influenced this.
"We are facing some challenges with the current Government of Kosovo, which have affected the quality of our partnership. As the State Department spokesman said earlier, the US Government hopes that the Government of Kosovo will return to close and constructive engagement with the US, the EU, NATO and other international partners of Kosovo. Hovenier said Wednesday at a press conference.
Almost throughout the mandate of the current Government, Ambassador Hovenier and his colleagues from a number of Western countries have opposed several decisions of the Kosovo authorities, which are related to the extension of sovereignty in the north inhabited mainly by Serbs - from the banning of Serbian elections in Kosovo up to the issue of the opening of the central bridge over the Ibër River in Mitrovica.
The European Union has imposed measures against Kosovo, the USA has reduced its support in lobbying, while the meetings of Government officials with Western counterparts have become rare.
Ambassador Hovenier emphasized that the relationship with the Government does not dictate that with the people of Kosovo.

"Even though some areas of cooperation with the current Government of Kosovo remain less positive than we would have hoped, the commitment of the USA to the people of Kosovo remains as strong and iron as ever", he said.
At the time when the American ambassador made these criticisms, Prime Minister Kurti was in the United States, where he participated in the Democratic National Convention. On the sidelines of the event organized in Chicago, Kurti also met with a number of senators.
