Haxhiu: Bukoshi massacre proves Serbia's genocide in Kosovo

Bukosh massacre - homage

Institutional representatives have honored the victims of the Bukoshi massacre in Suhareka, committed 27 years ago by Serbian forces. They have emphasized that this crime against displaced civilians is additional evidence of the genocide that Serbia has committed in Kosovo.

Institutional leaders have called the Bukoshi massacre in Suhareka, which was carried out by Serbian forces 27 years ago, evidence of genocide and ethnic cleansing.

While honoring the 25 victims who were pulled out of the column of displaced civilians, the acting president also spoke about the resistance of Albanians.

"What happened 27 years ago here in Bukosh is not something isolated, it is evidence of the genocide and ethnic cleansing that Serbia has committed in the Republic of Kosovo. But the resistance of the Kosovo Albanians, the courage and also the conviction that we must stand strong, has forced Serbia to retreat... we are also close to the families, who despite the pain - and many of them are survivors of this massacre - they stood strong", said Haxhiu.

And the Minister for War Values, Andin Hoti, spoke about the circumstances in which the massacre was committed. He said that the victims were executed without mercy.

"The crime that occurred in Bukosh, as well as the crimes that occurred in other places – in Suhareka, Rahovec, Prizren and wherever in Kosovo – are not simply war crimes. They are a pure tendency towards genocide. And this is what Serbia tried to do in Kosovo, it tried to commit genocide... And this is best shown by Bukosh, when people were violently taken from a column, which was also violently created to remove them from their homes, and were placed in front of a school," Hoti said.

Hoti called for events like the Bukosh massacre not to be forgotten and stressed that the members of the Serbian forces who committed this crime must face local or international justice.

On May 3, 1999, in this village of Suhareka, Serbian forces separated 25 civilians from a column of Albanian families, whom they then executed. The victims were men and boys ranging in age from 5 to 85.
