The Police Director says that in the Special Investigations Unit there are no removals by political orders

Accusations and verbal clashes between the MPs of the opposition and those of the government led to the meeting of the Parliamentary Commission for Security, in which the Director of Police, Gazmend Hoxha, reported. The debate was about the removal of Shemsi Haziri from the position of head of the anti-corruption task force.

The head of the Commission, Bekë Berisha, raised suspicions that the Director of Police, by political order, removed Hazir only because he was conducting investigations in the case of Ambassador Martin Berishaj.

"Major Shemsi Haziri had been to meetings three times, twice in Montenegro, and once in Slovenia for the case of Martin Berisha. And after the return of the major from Montenegro, the last time the transfer took place. This has been the only point of contact with the Montenegrin investigation, and for that reason he has left the investigation. Then you told the director, 'you have to get me out of here'. It is implied by political pressure, in fact that is how politics works through the director. However, why was this (Haziri) removed from me, when he was offered to the investigation and without any reason", said Bekë Berisha.

Berisha, who is an AAK deputy, received criticism from his colleague from Vetëvendosje, Enver Dugolli.

"This is the first time that it is happening in the Assembly of Kosovo when such a high institution as the Director of Police is called, and accusations are made against him, that I don't know if even the prosecutor would have been able to do such a thing with names , surname and doubts", Dugolli emphasized.

The MP of Vetëvendosje, Shqipe Mehmeti-Selimi, also argued in this line, but Berisha countered.

"Don't interrupt me, I'm talking. Am I speaking the word? So shut up," Berisha addressed him.

Another opposition deputy, Anton Quni, said that the statements of the head of the Commission should be taken seriously by the Prosecutor's Office.

"If these remain, it is really worrying and my colleagues should be worried too, regardless of which political party they belong to. We cannot go beyond these allegations and simply remain silent, because if these remain, it is not only a problem of the police, but a problem of society and the state", Quni emphasized. 

The police director denied Berisha's accusations. He said that Haziri's departure was done within the framework of reforms and not because of political orders.

"From the Special Investigations Unit, there have been no departures or transfers of any police officer or any superior outside the unit except for Major Shemsi Haziri, who was transferred within the framework of the reforms that I have implemented in order to achieve my vision and objectives... You mentioned some names that have moved from this unit, I guarantee you that all these moves were made at the request of the policemen themselves", stated Gazmend Hoxha, general director of the Police. 

The opposition has repeatedly criticized Vetëvendosje, for the purpose of extending its influence to independent institutions.
