The European Union has asked Serbia to review the draft laws approved on Monday. Through a reaction, the official Brussels has expressed the position that the decisions of the Government of Serbia constitute a clear violation of the obligations arising from the dialogue process
Representatives of the European Union (EU) have criticized Serbia, after the Government's approval of the measures for Kosovo.
In an answer to TIME, the European bloc has considered the declaration of Kosovo as a zone of special social protection and the approval of the draft law, which provides for the criminal prosecution of those who, according to Serbia, persecute the Serbian population in Kosovo, a violation on the part of Serbia.
"Since the Brussels Agreement from 2013, Kosovo and Serbia have clear obligations regarding the respective jurisdiction. The draft law of the Government of Serbia, through which it declares Kosovo as a zone of special protection, as well as for the jurisdiction for the judicial authorities to deal with criminal acts in Kosovo, in the way they have been published, represent a clear violation by Serbia of its obligations from the dialogue and go against the newly repeated commitment within the dialogue", said Nabila Massralli, EU spokesperson for foreign policy and security issues.
The European Union has asked Serbia to reconsider this draft law while reminding it of the obligations it has from the agreements reached in the negotiation process with Kosovo.
"The EU reminds Serbia that it has an obligation to all dialogue agreements, as an integral part of EU integration, and calls on Serbia to review this draft law accordingly," spokeswoman Massralli said.
A day ago, Deputy Prime Minister Besnik Bislimi considered the decisions of the Serbian Government an obstacle to the dialogue process and a violation of the agreements reached.
The declaration of Kosovo as an area of special social protection and the approval of the draft law on the jurisdiction of judicial authorities was announced by the president of Serbia, Aleksandër Vučić, in September of this year.
He made this warning in an address to the media, in which he presented several demands, among which the announcement of elections in the north and the return of Serbs to the institutions of Kosovo.
Vucic's requests, at that time, were supported by the European Union.
