Reducing tensions between Kosovo and Serbia is the goal of the European Union before organizing the next meeting between the two leaders.

The spokesperson of the European Union, Peter Stano, in a press conference on Monday, said that the Kurti-Vucic meeting will be held when the conditions for it are created.

"Of course, we are always ready to host a high-level meeting, in the framework of the dialogue between Prime Minister Kurti and President Vučić, when there are conditions, and when both of them agree on something like this," Stano emphasized. .

In order to escalate the situation and prepare for the meeting, it is expected to be discussed tonight, when from 20.00 Prime Minister Albin Kurti will host the EU emissary for dialogue, Miroslav Lajçak, and the US emissary for the Western Balkans, Gabriel Escobar.

"They go to continue working on the implementation of European and American calls for Kosovo and Serbia to de-escalate the situation and take steps for sustainable solutions. The platform for this sustainable solution is anyway in the dialogue facilitated by the EU", he added.

Before Lajcak and Escobar, two other diplomats went to Kurti's office, one from France and one from Germany.

In a communiqué from the Office of the Prime Minister, it is stated that the parties have agreed on the need to de-escalate the situation in the north. The new elections in the northern municipalities were also mentioned.

"The full establishment of the rule of law in the four municipalities in the north of Kosovo is necessary both for the removal of criminal elements and for an open and fair campaign before free and democratic elections in the future. The need for full, quick and unconditional implementation of the Basic Agreement of February 27 and its Annex was also emphasized," the Prime Minister's Office said in a statement.

The international factor has mentioned the holding of new elections in the north as one of the steps to de-escalate the situation, but the Serbs have set conditions for this: the removal of the Special Police Units from the north and the formation of the Association.

For 10 days now, Serbs have been protesting in three northern municipalities against the introduction of elected mayors into the main municipal buildings.
