Allen: The association is an essential step in Kosovo's Euro-Atlantic journey

The Undersecretary of the United States, Elizabeth Allen, has declared on Sunday that the Association of municipalities with a Serbian majority is essential for Kosovo's integration into the EU and NATO. She gave this message after signing the Memorandum of Understanding with President Vjosa Osmani against the manipulation of information by foreign countries. Prime Minister Kurti complained to her about Serbia's threats against Kosovo

The US Under-Secretary of State for Diplomacy and Public Affairs, Liz Allen, has considered the formation of the Association of Serb-majority municipalities in Kosovo, as an essential step in realizing Kosovo's Euro-Atlantic goals.

Undersecretary Elizabeth Allen, after signing the agreement of understanding against the manipulation of information by foreign countries with President Vjosa Osmani, said that the support of the US is greater where there is coordination with it.

"We had a productive discussion with the president this morning regarding disinformation, policy making, support for civil society and multilateral engagement. We also talked about the critical issue of Kosovo's European and Euro-Atlantic path. I reiterated that we can best support Kosovo's journey towards European and Euro-Atlantic institutions when we have close cooperation and coordination. I know that this is a very important matter for you, President Osmani. We discussed the essential step towards Kosovo's Euro-Atlantic path - the forward movement of Kosovo for the Association of municipalities with a Serbian majority", she said.

President Vjosa Osmani has assessed the contribution of the USA as vital for Kosovo.

Osmani stated that Kosovo has not been spared from disinformation or cyber attacks, while he described the agreement as a turning point to fight disinformation originating from foreign governments.

"Unfortunately, not even Kosovo has been spared from these attacks, which come and intensify as a result of Russia's influence in the region through its satellite, Serbia. It is not just another agreement, but it is a turning point, strengthening our cooperation in the fight against information manipulation", said Osmani.

At the joint conference on Sunday, it was announced that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on behalf of Kosovo and the Global Center for Inclusion together with the Office for European and Eurasian Affairs will be the bearers of the consultative mechanism provided for in this agreement.

Allen emphasized that the interoperability in the field of disinformation is like the interoperability of military forces.

"Just as we have NATO to guarantee security and defense, we will rely on this agreement to counter foreign disinformation and malignant influences," she declared.

The undersecretary was received in a separate meeting by Prime Minister Albin Kurti, who complained to her about  Serbia's constant threats to Kosovo.

In the press release from the Prime Minister's Office, it was emphasized that regarding the dialogue process, Prime Minister Kurti highlighted the importance of the full and unconditional implementation of the Basic Agreement and its annex.

"As for Kosovo's journey in European integration, he expressed his regret that the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe was not ready to include Kosovo in the voting agenda of May 17, considering that Kosovo has met all the criteria of membership in this organization, as confirmed by the instances of this organization itself, including the Parliamentary Assembly, and when it is known that our membership would contribute to the strengthening and promotion of human rights", the Government announcement states.

Allen also wrote about the meeting via the "X" platform.

According to her, Kosovo belongs to the EU and NATO and that she expects the full implementation of all the agreements made by Kosovo and Serbia in the dialogue facilitated by the European Union.
