Visitors from Kosovo increase the number of cultural tourists in Korça

The National Museum of Medieval Art in Korça has seen an increase in the number of visitors during 2024, ranking as one of the attractions of this city, but not the only one.  

The director of this institution, Fjoralba Prifti, told the Albanian Telegraphic Agency that last year, visitor numbers increased by about 50 percent compared to the year before. The figure reached over 37 thousand visitors: 21 thousand of them visited the National Museum of Medieval Art, 15 thousand were visitors of the Museum of Education and 425 thousand XNUMX of the Archaeological Museum of Korça, which is temporarily closed for restoration. The Museum of Education and the Archaeological Museum are administered by the MKAM.

Unlike other museums where the majority of visitors are foreign tourists, the Museum of Education was visited mainly by local visitors and Albanians from North Macedonia and Kosovo.

The director of MKAM said that a series of activities are planned for 2025, including the publication of the third issue of the magazine "On Medieval Art", an annual publication of the museum, where renowned researchers and specialists refer to various articles.

Since this year coincides with the 45th anniversary of MKAM and as part of Museum Day, MKAM will organize an exhibition, scientific session, as well as other activities related to the "Education on Culture" program.

The priest is quoted as saying that workshops, discussion events, exhibitions, and concerts with students of different age groups are on the program. Some of these activities will also be held online, such as the exhibition "Origins and Crafts" and the cycle "Between Cultural Heritage and Art."

"These activities will take place both online and in the museum, where ethnographic museum objects are exhibited and meetings with various artisans are held, who will talk about their work. The MKAM's calendar of activities also includes activities that the museum organizes in cooperation with other partners, such as in the case of the European Cultural Heritage Week and the National Heritage Day," she said. 

This museum center is one of the most important in the country. It was inaugurated on April 24, 1980 and within it also operates the Center for the Restoration and Study of Icons, which continues with daily work on projects on restoration, consolidation, study, and more.
