The ring that brought death to Alexander Moses

In his memoirs entitled "The World of Yesterday", Stefan Zweig has shown how he believed that if a great actor were to take part in one of his plays, he would die, as happened to Alexander Moisiu, in 1935. .

This superstition of Zweig's was strengthened by the fact that Moses had been bequeathed by the late actor Josef Kainz, the famous Iffland ring, the ring which Germany's greatest actor bequeathed to his greatest descendant.

Kainz, who had inherited the ring from the actor Adalbert Matkowsky, had died before he could star in a Zweig play in which he had been given a role. The great Albanian actor Aleksandër Moisiu, whom Zweig thought was Italian, died of a severe cold in 1935, reinforcing the superstition of his Austrian writer friend Stefan Zweig.
