"Time travel" connects the past and present, predicts the future

Yusuf Buxhovi

For Jusuf Buxhovi, his work "Time Travel" is a liberation from all preoccupations. And at the promotion, on Thursday, it was praised as an intellectual read.

“Historical reality as an irrevisable fact, philosophical concepts as an artistic metaphor, present the metamorphosis of the character Artan Rrashta in three times: yesterday – medieval, today – tribal and tomorrow – naked, without memory, in the form of an absurd sarcasm, where the washed-out being turns the language of thought into a grotesque syncope”, is the warning that the author Jusuf Buxhovi himself makes to his work “Travel in Time”. It is not only about history, he draws parallels as he predicts tomorrow and strikes the absurd

Historian, writer and publicist Jusuf Buxhovi takes the reader on a journey through three time periods, but they do not understand the meaning of the eras. Yesterday is medieval, today is tribal and tomorrow is naked. In his newest novel “Journey in Time”, the time distance is great, but not the developments and events between them. For the author, the work is a liberation from all preoccupations. And at the promotion, on Thursday, it was evaluated as intellectual reading.

Buxhov's works can generally be considered historical texts. This is also his latest book. But he does not stop at history. "Time Travel" is divided into three parts, like three chapters. This is what the novel's subtitle warns about - "The Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow of Artan Rrashta".

"Historical reality as an irrevisable fact, philosophical concepts as an artistic metaphor, present the metamorphosis of the character Artan Rrashta in three times: yesterday - medieval, today - tribal and tomorrow - naked, without memory, in the form of an absurd sarcasm, where the washed-out being turns the language of thought into a grotesque syncope", is the warning he himself gives to the work. It is his 50th book.
Author Buxhovi has spoken a little about his work, referring to the maxim "To kill or be killed?", although he has stated that it is not up to the author to talk about his work, because from the moment it is published it belongs to the public.

"This is the Hamletian dilemma, which today concerns every person, especially creators, who are presumed to present an intellectual knowledge of a time. Therefore, this work has been for me also a liberation from all that has preoccupied us for years. It is a wandering in solitude, a judgment and self-judgment, an assessment and self-assessment, dilemma and self-dilemma, a murder and suicide, from which the author cannot escape," said historian Buxhovi at the promotion of the novel at the "Hivzi Sulejmani" library in Pristina.

He also quoted Plato in his speech, saying that literary creators should not deal with politics and listed the reasons.

"I wanted to connect it with what Plato said three thousand years ago. He says it ironically, but I believe he was right in some circumstances. He says that poets should be denied the right to engage in politics, because when they engage in politics, they usually harm politics due to the fact that they are sincere, that they think, that in the works of the creator there is always an internal struggle between the blood of knowledge and the knowledge of blood," Buxhovi emphasized.

He said that in this time, ignorance, ignorance and the ideal for which the war was fought are killing. He expressed that the work has helped him and helps him distance himself from all the events, although he is constantly attacked.

"In the current situations we have come to an absurd situation, that's how I feel as an author, because the blood of knowledge is harmful. We must submit to the knowledge of blood, the maxim 'kill or be killed'. A reality that we must take into account. Plato's irony can be taken in the direct sense that the creator anathematizes in one of the most severe, most terrible ways. I think Plato was right, because he did the creator justice that if you deal with creativity, if you talk about knowledge, if you are not a thief, you are not corrupt, you are not part of a mechanism that exploits knowledge and the power of knowledge, then you will be targeted and you will be killed," said Buxhovi.

He explained that the blood of knowledge is wisdom and science, while knowledge and blood are what preoccupy man in a kinship sense.

Writer Nazmi Rrahmani has said that the author presents both today's psychology and that of the time of the Arbëro Principalities.

"It is a novel that is both historical and related to the current situation, because it symbolizes both the events that are currently taking place, but also those that once happened in the Arbëro Principality that was occupied by Christians. The characters described here represent the psychology of the time, related to the psychology of today," said Rrahmani.

The work opens with a short prologue and continues with the first part, “Yesterday/Principate.” The second part is titled “Today/Tribe,” while the third is titled “Tomorrow/Rumor.” It closes with a short epilogue.

Researcher Begzad Baliu has said that the three parts can also be read "as three times (the Middle Ages, the modern era and the present), as three stories interconnected with each other, even as three lives of the narrator: to continue with three situations, three essays, three narratives in the first person, in the second person and in the third person; three novels that make up a novel; or a history, a narratology and a drama; and further, a tragic story, a tragedy and a tragicomedy...".

"If the first level of the text The Principality is permeated by historical components, while the second by ideological and thematic components, the third level of this part takes on the typical artistic dimension, placing the event entirely in a theater permeated by irony," said Baliu.
He considered that the text of the novel offers opportunities for discussion of construction techniques from a historical-literary, aesthetic-literary, and semasiological context.

"Within it, all the intellectual, political, cultural and civic components of a time and of one or more generations are discussed. In this vein, the author speaks of loneliness, as a universal act of the intellectual; the finished war and the never-ending internal war, peace with others and its absence within oneself; murder as a closed act and the murdered conscience as an open drama, the war of opposites as a disease of darkness (90) and different thinking – as heresy, the eternal dilemma, as he calls it 'to be killed or to be killed'", the writer and university professor Begzad Baliu further said.
