"You, I am" and "What men want" in clash of gender perspectives

A special feature of this year's edition of "FemArt" is the fact that the organizers have invested and created financial opportunities for Kosovar artists to create new artistic works. Through the realization of various performances, we aim to strengthen the role of women in Kosovo and the region and raise awareness of human rights in general. These were also touched on the fourth day of the festival. The premiere of the theater show "You, I am I" directed by Natyre Kallaba and the forum dance theater "What do men want?" directed and choreographed by Robet Nuha, with text by Edlir Gashi. Both are productions of "Artpolis". The eighth edition of "FemArt" started on October 15 and ends on Tuesday (today).

The director Natyre Kallaba has put a teacher, the ideal profession in Kosovar society, in the center of the show "You, I am". It alludes to the fact that people see the teacher as a perfect person. But Kallaba's teacher, played by actress Tringa Hasani, is not like that at all. She is divorced, has changed several husbands, has a promiscuous life and feelings that are not considered traditional. Next to her is a journalist, who in a way is a puppet of the teacher and the cleaner.

"I wanted to say that regardless of who we are, we have the same feelings, one body, one blood, and we can find each other in each other, but it depends on time," said Kallaba. The teacher and the cleaner have quite a lot of feelings for each other. The show is one where the characters don't hide their preoccupations or emotions. The characters are easily readable.

"In this life, the most important thing is feelings. If we are guided by them, then we will have the things we want and we will be happy", said the director. The play "You, I am" was premiered in the small hall of the National Theater of Kosovo, on Sunday night.

"I am a depressed teacher who has problems with her life and thinks that the students and parents don't love her. But the problem is with the teacher. She is broken and unhappy with her life", said actress Tringa Hasani about her role. According to her, the show touches on a social theme and such teachers can easily be found in the country. Here and there the play points out that the characters often had to make choices that they did not want, but that were imposed on them. Something similar happened to the cleaner played by the actress Filorieta Bajraktari. In the role, she has come to Pristina to study a profession she does not like. But after she meets the teacher Rita, she realizes that she must follow her dream, leave her law studies and dedicate herself to design.
