Pristina, June 13 - Empowering the role of women was the topic of Wednesday on the third day of the "FemArt" festival. In different aspects, this topic was addressed in the Student Center, and artistically it is reflected in the mural of the Dutch artist Judith De Leeuv, known as "JDL street art". Leeuv (23), born and raised in Amsterdam, brought to the wall of dormitory number 8 a girl who falls from a skateboard, but still holds her hand up, as a sign that after every fall there is a rise.
"The mural is titled 'Rise and fall'. It shows the never-ending cycle of women prevailing and falling and then rising again. A story that never ends", she said. With her work, she said that she aims for the students who pass by and see this mural to believe that they can do anything, even if it is a job that is considered for men. Even the artist herself has faced negative comments from people who have considered that street art has no place, but she proves the opposite with her work.
"Even I, as a street art artist, have received such negative comments as: 'you should stay in the kitchen', 'don't try to do that', 'why are you women like that', 'why do you try', 'It's like football, you'll never be the same' and stuff like that. This to me is funny because if you look at the facts we are no different. We are just as powerful, equal and have the same skills," said Leeuv.
The creation of the mural was done in collaboration with the international festival of murals, "MuralFest" of Ferizaj.
The director of this festival, Lebibe Topalli, said that they welcomed the cooperation with the "FemArt" festival, which this year is realized under the motto "With freedom against the odds". Last year, the festival used a mural to cover offensive inscriptions about women written on a part of the wall of the Youth Palace in Pristina.

On the third day of "FemArt", in the National Library of Kosovo, "Pjeter Bogdani", the conference "#Epathyer - Abolition of the concept" was held, where abortion was discussed. The first panel discussed abortions in Kosovo: an analysis of abortions and reproductive health from 1999 to 2019. After that, questions and answers were possible with the public with investigative journalist Leonida Molliqaj and researcher Iliriana Banjska. The conference was closed with the third panel "Opinions of Doctors / Professionals on the issue of Abortion".
Today, on the fourth day of the FemArt festival, on June 13, 2019, at 10:00 - 14:00, at the Faculty of Arts, a workshop "Creating feminist posters" will be organized with trainers Blerta Hoçia / Albania and Silvia Basso / Italy. In this workshop, through a special form of graphic design, women who have left their mark on world history will be portrayed.
At the Faculty of Arts, at 15:00 - 16:00, it will continue with a presentation by the same artist from Italy, Sivia Basso: "Conversation with Silvia Basso: "Illustration, Language and Innovation".
At the National Gallery of Kosovo, at 17:30 - 19:00, a panel discussion "Women artists in decision-making" will be held, with panelists: Burbuqe Berisha/Ks, Vjosa Berisha/Ks, Dijana Milosevic/Srb, Besa Luzha/Ks , Merita Smaja/Ks, Jehona Shyti/Ks, Ema Andrea/Al.
The fourth day of the Femart festival will end at the ODA theater, with the theatrical performance from Japan "La Grand Cahier", at 20:00 - 21:30.
The "FemArt" festival will last until June 16. During this time it will bring more than 30 events.
