It is learned that the Albanian museum has received 11 votes in favor in the evaluation committee, which has declared it the winner.
The theme of this museum is the commemoration of the psychological violence of the communist regime and the control of citizens through wiretapping by the former Security.
The building known as the 'House of Leaves' (so called because of the creeper that covered its facade), has now been turned into the National Museum of Wiretapping. Opened on May 23, 2017, it is the newest museum in Albania and one of the most special that tries to tell young people and foreigners about one of the darkest periods of the country's history. Positioned in the center of Tirana, in front of the Orthodox Church: "Resurrection of Christ" and next to the National Bank, the building that housed the Gestapo for a while during the occupation of the country in World War II, has been the Central Intelligence Headquarters of the Secret Service since 1944 - 1991.
Like the very history of Albania under the communist dictatorship, which was installed at the end of the Second World War and continued for almost half a century, the House of Leaves for a long time has been wrapped in all kinds of legends and constituted an unknown, a mystery. The whispers of people and the rustling of leaves, opening the doors of this house, presenting the activities that were carried out inside it and many other related things, this museum will simultaneously unfold views of Albanian society under the conditions of a regime that aimed at total control over the bodies , the minds and souls of people.
Interceptions, controls, espionage... that have brought arrests, deportations, torture, severe punishments for many, many innocent people, this museum is dedicated to them.
Conceived in 9 sections, the 'House of Leaves' consists of 31 coherently connected rooms and each room has a special function.
