"Don't get angry Prizren!"- with a play in defense of cultural heritage

Some cities in Albania have been the stations of the famous game "Don't get hot!", but transformed into promotion and awareness of the importance of protecting cultural heritage. Now comes the version for Prizren, through which students have the opportunity to walk and learn about some of the monuments of the historical city while playing.

The education of new generations about the cultural heritage of the Municipality of Prizren is aimed to be realized through the fun game "Don't get hot Prizren!". This format of the game, introduced years ago in several cities of Albania, was also unveiled in the cultural capital of Kosovo on Wednesday, with the idea of ​​increasing care for the preservation and protection of cultural heritage values.

In the courtyard of the Museum Complex of the Albanian League of Prizren, the game was presented in front of the audience in dimensions for public spaces and for tables, while the students of the "Emin Duraku" school were the first to throw the dice, to then move along the path of the cultural heritage of the old city.

The director of the NGO "EC Ma Ndryshe", Valon Xhabali, has said that most of the participants from the older generations are familiar with this game, since they have played it in a different format.

"This time, as an organization, we have tried to bring an additional tool for raising awareness and educating especially the new generations about the importance of protecting and promoting cultural heritage", said Xhabali, adding that this game was carried out a few years ago in several cities of Albania and that in Kosovo for the first time comes design with the values ​​of Prizren.

While the director of the QRTK in Prizren, Samir Hoxha, said that this activity enables the presentation of the values ​​of the cultural heritage of the Municipality of Prizren.

"This game, which partly takes us back in retrospect - to us who are the middle generations, why not the old ones who have had the opportunity to play but in different formats and names - is now becoming a reality with the presentation of cultural heritage values ", Hoxha declared.

According to him, this activity enables the informal education of young people about the promotion of cultural heritage.

"Through this activity, the informal education of the younger generations, of schoolchildren, for whom we need a lot, and informal education is part of our objectives in accordance with the implementation of the national strategy of cultural heritage, and here we pledge to the minister, and in front of you participants, parents, students that our institution will always be ready and in favor of cooperation in various fields with special emphasis on the promotion of our cultural heritage", said Hoxha.

On the other hand, the minister of MKRS, Hajrulla Çeku, said that education about cultural heritage should start from a young age.

"It should start from a young age and the best way to learn something is through play, through fun and cooperation with each other. Of course, the name of the game is 'don't get angry', so those who lose don't get angry, because even those who lose have gained, because they have gained knowledge, knowledge about cultural heritage", said Çeku, addressed the students present in this activity.

He added that education through play is a targeted methodology.

"This may seem like something small, but in fact it is a very advanced methodology to educate our children properly, with values, so that they grow up with the idea that these values ​​should be protected, cultivated and promoted further". Čeku emphasized.

This creative game was previously designed for different cities of Albania, such as: Gjirokastra, Tirana, Shkodra, Korça, and others. The game, according to the project leaders, besides aiming to "rest" children from excessive exposure to electronic devices, also aims to bring back a nostalgia of many Kosovar families, now in a different format, where children through play and entertainment will be able to to (re)discover different elements of their city's heritage, while adults evoke the memories that the game offers and can openly discuss the topics of protecting our common cultural heritage.

The game "Don't get hot" was created for the first time in 2017 by Cultural Heritage Without Borders in Albania (CHwB Albania) as part of the collection "E ka kush e ka", which aims to involve children and adults in a series of books of games through which the cultural heritage of the country where they live is discovered and rediscovered. The game is design referenced in one of the favorite games of children in the 80's and 90's adapted and placed in function of education and heritage. The first edition was designed for the stone city of Gjirokastra, then continuing with Berat, Korça, Shkodra, Elbasan, Tirana, Durrës, Puka and recently with the edition for Prizren, the cultural and historical capital of Kosovo. In 2018, this game was selected as the winner of the European Heritage stories award during the European Heritage Days, managed by the Council of Europe.

In the following weeks, the game will be presented to other schools of the Municipality of Prizren, with the aim of being one of the informal means of education for the younger generations of Prizren.
