The Monastery of Saint Julita and Qirik, which are considered an architectural wonder and pearl of the Middle Ages, is expected to undergo conservation interventions.
The project will be financed by the US Department of State, the Ambassadors' Fund for the Preservation of the Cultural Heritage of the USA and the US Embassy in Albania, through the heritage foundation "Cultural Heritage without Borders" in Albania.
The process is at the tender announcement stage, as announced in an announcement from "CHwB Albania".
Licensed companies in the implementation of restoration works in the field of cultural heritage are invited there to submit their offers.
The project has been named as "Conservation Intervention in the 'Monastery of Saint Julita and Qirik'" and is considered a monument of the first category. It is located in the village of Dhuvjan in Gjirokastra.
"Cultural Heritage without Borders - invites companies that are licensed in the implementation of restoration work in the field of cultural heritage to submit financial / valuable offers for work in a cult object, monument of the first category for the project: 'Conservation Intervention in the Monastery' of St. Julita and Qirik', in Dhuvjan, in Gjirokastër", the announcement reads.
The monastery is an architectural monument of the Middle Ages, built in 1588. This rare gem displays the ingenuity of the medieval builders, with its cross-shaped nave crowned by a magnificent dome.
“Six columns draw the eye from the impressive dome, a testament to the era's skill in creating strong yet elegant structures. Outside, the church fascinates with its harmonious proportions and meticulously detailed architecture, offering a glimpse into the past," the heritage site describes.
