Novobërde, March 12 – What is known as the upper part of the city, in the Novobërde Castle, has turned into a dangerous area for citizens. This happens three years after 1 million and 100 thousand euros were invested there. The sign prohibiting climbing up to the structures that have been restored and conserved indicates that it is a dangerous area.
Proof of this is the collapse of a part of the facade on the eastern side of the Castle's structures, which can be evidenced even by those who cannot cross the danger line. The facade - in this case with stones - has fallen on two wall surfaces also on the western side of the monument dating from the XNUMXth century. Inside the structures, a similar damage is only on the wall near the main gate. But the stones that build the arch at the gate are cracked.
The collapses that started last month have reached a critical point, while there are indications of more. UNESCO, the European Union, a Croatian company that designed the project, another Serbian company that implemented it, and local institutions also participated in the work done on this monument. Fixed 1.1 million euros is the cost of the project that started at the beginning of 2015 and was completed at the end of 2016. The financing was done by the European Commission, while the working parties were contracted and supervised by UNESCO. The design of the conservation and restoration project was done by the company "Omega Engineering" based in Dubrovnik and the works were carried out by the company "Koto" based in Belgrade. The supervision was done by representatives of these two companies and also by representatives of UNESCO, the European Union and local institutions. All parties will visit the monument to ascertain the situation in order to develop the next steps.
At the end of 2018, the Archaeological Institute of Kosovo noticed that there were indications that warned of problems in the walls of the Castle's structures.
