French author Annie Ernaux has won the 2022 Nobel Prize for literature for "the courage and insight with which she reveals the roots, departures and collective limitations of personal memory," the Swedish Academy announced Thursday.
Ernaux, whose work is mostly autobiographical, is 82 years old.
In her writing, Ernaux constantly and from different perspectives examines a life characterized by strong gender, language and class inequalities. The road to creativity has been long and arduous for him, the Swedish Academy wrote.
The French novelist grew up in Normandy. She is known for her autobiographical work in works such as "Une Femme", "La Place" and "Passion simple". She started her literary career in 1974. Her work has tempted many critics. Those English people even wanted to categorize her writing as a "memoir". However, Ernauxi himself has said that he deals with fiction. Many of her works have been translated into English and she has been nominated for major international awards, including the Booker in 2019 for the book The Years.
The prize is worth ten million Swedish kroner, or $915.
