"The Sea and Music" with the works of Ibrahim Kodra which will open on September 23 at the Bank of Albania

After many years, 41 works by renowned Albanian painter Ibrahim Kodra will be presented together in the exhibition "Sea and Music", which will open on September 23 at the Bank of Albania. 

The news was announced by the Minister of Tourism, Culture and Sports, Blendi Gonxhja, who emphasized that the works, created during the period 1947–1999, convey a narrative built through colors, rhythm and symbolism. The exhibition aims to bring the creative universe of the Albanian master closer to the public, through a selection that includes not only paintings, but also photographs, documents and personal objects of the artist. The exhibition “Sea and Music” will be open from September 23 to November 23, 2026, at the premises of the Bank of Albania, with the support of the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sports.

Ibrahim Kodra, the most famous Albanian painter in the international arena, was born in Likmetaj i Ishmit, in 1918 and passed away 20 years ago in Milan. With a great creativity of six thousand works, he is considered one of the most powerful modern Albanian painters of the second half of the 20th century. In the history of modern Albanian and European art, Ibrahim Kodra was one of the most prominent original profiles that, although he lived outside Albania, Albanian colors and themes were at his artistic core. Evaluated as a post-cubist by critics, in 1996 Kodra received the title of “Honor of the Nation” and in 1997 he was declared Honorary Consul and was given a diplomatic passport of the Republic of Albania.
