Ballet, like a nomad, seeks awakening and does not fade love.

An evening of two performances has been called the first premiere of the year by the Kosovo National Ballet. “The Bee” choreographed by Clébio Oliviera and “We will never give up on love” choreographed by Erion Kruja have come together on the improvised stage of the Kosovo National Theatre at the Youth Palace, maintaining the freshness and dynamics of the movements in this diptych of messages. The first transforms the dancers into bees in search of a hive and is connected to the fate of the Kosovo National Ballet, which has been homeless since its foundation. The second is a call for love as a path in the face of evil in turbulent times.

It is the bees that are known for their work. But this time they are in the phase of finding a new hive. That is why they are searching. They come with different movements. As if they are giving news. Sometimes they are scared and sometimes they are confessing. They are united by one goal: finding a hive that in the language of the masses is often called a hive. Symbolically, the dancers have turned into bees. It is a game that to some extent describes the National Ballet of Kosovo since its founding in 1972. Since then, the dancers have been without a home of their own. In recent years, they have been tenants.

The dancers of the National Ballet of Kosovo, on Wednesday night, had a premiere with two points. It started with “The Bee”, choreographed by Clébio Oliveira. The contemporary ballet choreographer, known mainly in the German world, has researched a little bit of the local tradition. He has this as a ritual to tease himself with some creative idea for the country and the company with which he intends to work. He has learned that the xhubleta is a very famous Albanian garment, even an asset of the world's spiritual cultural heritage, recognized by UNESCO. And also that the new project of the Opera and Ballet Theater by architect Bjarke Ingels is based on the xhubleta. The symbolism has led him to compare the xhubleta to the traditional beehive in these parts, made with mortar and sticks.

The performance “Bee” as a concept responds very well to the narrative and demands of the Kosovo National Ballet. It unites the energy spent on the theme of a home of one’s own. With contemporary dance on International Dance Day, the KNB bees search, narrate, and as if announce that they have found a new nest. The energy of this performance, where there is a lot of repetition, is great. In recent years, the Ballet has been conditioned by space, not being able to bring classical performances. Also on Wednesday, the dancers were brought together by the amphitheater of the Palace of Youth and Sports, which is used by the National Theater of Kosovo, also a tenant.

"I needed to find an idea to get inspired. I was trying to find a theme that the National Ballet of Kosovo is related to. I found the beautiful tradition of the xhublete. I was fascinated and started reading about it. Then I came to the idea of ​​the hive. Then I connected the bees that are looking for the hive. For 17 days I had to work quickly and precisely," said choreographer Oliveiras. He explained that it is an interesting connection to how bees, when they want to change their hive and separate from others, search for a new place.

"These bees, after searching for a place, return to the old hive and try to convince others that they have found a new hive. Theoretically, the dancers will have their 'hive', that is, the new theater, and tonight they showed the public that they are finding it," he said. Theoretically, this news is not rare in Kosovo. It dates back to 2009, when some of the dancers present witnessed a cornerstone for the Ballet and Opera Theater. But that project was never realized. On Wednesday, they symbolically announced the news of another project that is expected to be launched behind the Palace of Youth and Sports. But there is still only talk of projects, ideas and goals.

"The show was really very good. Performed in the most worthy way, both artistically and physically. It was a two-act show. It is a novelty for us. A Dutchman had the same genre. Tonight we left satisfied with the performance of these dancers who are only worthy of praise," said veteran dancer Rrustem Bajrami, who began his career and ended it as a member of an institution that was always a guest, never a resident on stage or in its own home. They have always nurtured a great love for the profession, regardless of the conditions.

And the second part of the evening brought the next point, which is precisely related to love.

“We Will Never Give Up on Love” choreographed by Erion Kruja brought the dancers back together on stage, where the passion and struggle for love unfold through the movements. It is about the struggle for individual and collective love. This point also requires great energy and a fusion of dance styles, always keeping the contemporary as the axis.

"It talks about love, about all concepts of love. About the love that we need between people, between families and in society as a whole. In recent years, as a society, we need a little more love. The play says that we will never give up on love. So the audience sees an energetic picture that talks about all aspects of love. The side of fragility and that wild love to keep things alive. We need a little bit of that fight for love to keep it up," said Kruja. It is a play where, despite requiring a lot of energy, in terms of artistic realization, it is not distinguished by any flow. But it is clearly understood that the characters do not give up on love. Nowadays, when wars have affected several parts of the world and security is often questioned in many aspects, the dancers call for more love. The leader of the BKK also mentions this.

The acting director of the National Ballet of Kosovo, Kreshnik Musolli, a dancer at the same time, said that these days there is a need for much more love. According to him, in these turbulent global times, love is what can save humanity. He showed that this concept with two points within the evening has turned out to be palatable.

"The idea was to bring something new, something more attractive to the public and to give the public the opportunity to see something new and different, two shows in one night. I believe it was well received, also based on the applause," said Musolli.

This evening of the National Ballet of Kosovo, on International Dance Day, along with Thursday's reprise, were held on the eve of a long tour that the Ballet starts next week in several countries of what is known as Latin America. The "bees" of the ballet with other performances will wander far to return to their country. They will be looking for a home again.
