Murder of Argentine woman, Prosecution seeks harsher sentence for Nika, defense seeks acquittal

The State Prosecutor and the family of the Argentine victim, Maria Clara Urdangaray, have requested the harsher sentence of 18 years in prison for the murder of Endrit Nika, while his defense has requested that he be released. 

In the session held on Monday, the referring judge Mentor Hajraj emphasized that the Appeals Prosecution and the Basic Prosecution in Pristina have requested that the sentence for the accused for aggravated murder be increased.

The victim's family lawyer, Betim Shala, has requested life imprisonment. 

And Endrit Nika's lawyer, Tomë Gashi, has requested his release, saying that the Argentine's death was accidental and was caused after the victim fell after leaning on the window frames of a hotel that, according to him, was not a hotel, but an illegal construction. He insisted that Maria Clara Urdangaray's death was accidental.

The Basic Court in Pristina in February of this year sentenced Nika to 18 years in prison for the murder of his Argentine girlfriend in a hotel in Fushë-Kosovo in August 2023. According to the indictment, Nika also abused the victim in the room, until at one point he threw her out of the sixth-floor window of the hotel where they were staying.
