A one and a half year old child died on Thursday at Peja Hospital and police are investigating the case, which they have described as "unconscious medical treatment."
According to the Police report, the child's father said that he had sent the child to this hospital for treatment a day earlier, on Wednesday, and that after treatment, he had been released home.
On Thursday, according to the father, the child was taken to the hospital once again after being in serious health condition, and died there.
"The male Kosovar complainant reported that his child, about a year and a half old, after being taken to the Regional Hospital in Peja, due to his serious health condition, passed away. According to the complainant, on 05.11.2025 he had also sent the child for treatment to the same hospital and after treatment he was released home," the police report states.
The relevant police units are said to have arrived at the scene and are investigating the case, while by order of the prosecutor, the body has reportedly been sent to the Institute of Forensic Medicine for an autopsy.
The General Hospital in Peja has also written about the case.
The hospital's announcement states that the child was admitted to the hospital at 22:15 on November 5, 2025 by the attending physician, with complaints of vomiting. After the treatment provided, it is said that his condition has stabilized and he has been released with the recommendation to be closely monitored and, if necessary, to return for additional check-ups.
"On the morning of November 6, 2025, at around 07:00, the child was brought back to the hospital, this time in serious condition, with impaired consciousness and serious breathing problems. He was immediately treated by the medical team with oxygen and supportive therapy, but due to the deterioration of the condition, intubation was performed by the anesthesiology team. Despite the resuscitation measures undertaken with dedication and according to medical protocols, unfortunately the child passed away at 08:50," the announcement states.
It is further stated that the Hospital immediately notified the Kosovo Police, at 09:13, as well as the competent bodies to conduct investigations according to the law.
"The hospital remains at the disposal of the responsible institutions for any additional clarification, respecting the family's pain and privacy," the announcement states.
