Thanks to inter-institutional cooperation, it has become possible to localize large-scale fires in the village of Cernushë in Mitrovica, the Kosovo Police announced on Sunday.
The police announced that thanks to the support of the Kosovo Security Force and KFOR, the fires were contained in the early hours of today.
The fires involved three different locations in Mitrovica.
"In the village of Cernushë, the fire was very large and had covered large areas of forest. In order to localize the fire, KSF and KFOR units were also invited to assist, and they offered their assistance with both personnel and equipment. "KFOR has provided assistance with a helicopter to extinguish the fires," the Police announcement states.
Because the fires were of dangerous proportions, the Police evacuated several families in Cernushë.
The case has been initiated as "Causation of general risk", while investigations are ongoing.
The police appealed to the citizens to be careful in these hot temperatures, as "any small carelessness can cause fires with unpredictable consequences".
