Albanian family in Switzerland attacked by Serbian fans

The destroyed car of the Albanian family

An Albanian family was attacked in Zurich, Switzerland, on Saturday night, after the 2026 World Cup qualifier between Serbia and Albania. Albania won the match in Leskovac with a score of 1:0.

The Albanian family, who had come out to celebrate Albania's victory in Zurich, was attacked by Serbian fans, reports "Blick".

Donika J. had traveled with her husband and 10-year-old daughter to celebrate Albania's victory and had placed the Albanian flag in her Mercedes.

In Schwamendingen, near a bar, the car suddenly encountered a crowd, including Serbia fans.

"Suddenly, a young man ran towards our car and broke our windshield with a hard object, maybe a chain or a belt. The glass pieces flew into the back seat, where our daughter was," Donika says.

She says she was sitting in the passenger seat and the attacker hit the car window at head height.

The incident hit the family hard.

"The explosion was so strong that we were all shocked," she says, as she begins to cry.

The shock of the attack is still deep.

"I had imagined that something like this could happen in Switzerland," she says. "I still can't believe that something so terrible happened."

She immediately called the police. Zurich police said they received at least one report of a damaged car.

There were several reports of unrest on Saturday night.

It's not the first time police have been called to Ueberlandstrasse due to an incident. There were also reports of street disturbances during the first match between Albania and Serbia in June, which ended goalless.

Also in Lucerne on Saturday, there were reports of provocations and physical violence between groups after the match between Serbia and Albania.

Celebrating football fans also caused significant traffic disruptions in the city.
Some roads were temporarily closed.

"A total of 50 fines were issued and several people were punished for various traffic law violations," Lucerne Police announced on Monday.

Celebrating drivers also caused traffic disruptions in Wil.
