Edmond Lajçi is sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of his wife

Edmond Lajçi has been sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of his wife, Gjyljeta Ukella.

He pleaded guilty on Tuesday, December 24, at the initial hearing for the case held at the Basic Court in Peja.

Ukella's family members have welcomed the court's decision.

"The court gave the final decision that eased our pain even a little bit as a family", said the brother of the deceased.  

Lajçi, according to the indictment filed on November 19 by the Basic Prosecutor's Office in Peja, is accused that on April 16, at around 8 o'clock in the morning, he deliberately and with a pistol killed his wife in their apartment on "Bill Klinton" street in Peja .

The indictment also states that the couple had constant problems and that Lajçi exercised psychological violence against his wife. And on the day when the murder took place, the indictment specifies that the accused, after returning home from staying overnight in the hospital with his mother who was being treated for an illness, asked his daughter to leave the apartment to buy something in the store, with the intention of being alone with his wife.
