Murder-Gjirokaster

The Albanian police announced on Sunday that they solved the murder of two elderly people in Bodrishte, Gjirokastra, three days ago, arresting the suspect and seizing the suspected tools with which the crime was committed.

According to the police, Th.M., 69 years old, a resident of Bodrishte, previously convicted of theft, is accused of "murder in other qualifying circumstances" and "unauthorized possession of explosive weapons and ammunition".

The director of the Gjirokastra Police, Ardian Çipa, said that the 69-year-old man was found and seized as material evidence "a suspected item of crime, a quantity of military ammunition, a cutting tool and other evidence that have been sent for examination to the Institute of the Scientific Police".

The motive for the murder is still not clear as the police found about 5 million Lek intact in the apartment of the elderly and found no signs of theft.

The two elderly people, Kosta and Kleoniqi Ilia, 80 and 84 years old, were found dead by neighbors in the apartment on Thursday morning with strong signs of violence on the body and head.

Many areas in the south of Albania are inhabited only by elderly people, as their children have emigrated abroad and the serious crime provoked strong reactions in the public./VoA
