A lieutenant colonel and a police captain have been arrested in Peja, on suspicion of having interfered in the case of an arrested businessman, by failing to follow up on the case for investigation and by failing to notify the Prosecution, as required by procedure.

The State Prosecution Office and the Kosovo Police Inspectorate announced on Saturday that two police officers have been arrested on suspicion of abuse of official duty. They have been ordered to be detained for 48 hours.

According to the IPK, this is a case that occurred on May 28. Several police officers were notified of a traffic accident on "Shpëtim Bojku" street in Peja and during the inspection of the scene, they accompanied a suspect to the station, who was not involved in the accident, but who obstructed the police in carrying out their duties.

The two arrested are suspected of having interfered in the case, by not following up on the case for investigation, by not notifying the Prosecutor's Office and by issuing the suspect a misdemeanor ticket for disturbing public order and peace.

"The police lieutenant colonel and captain are suspected of having intervened in this case (the escort of the suspect to the station) by not following up on the case for investigation and not notifying the Prosecution of the case (contrary to standard police procedures in such cases), issuing the suspect a ticket for a misdemeanor for disturbing public order and peace," the IPK statement states.

Regarding the case, on Saturday, the show "Oath for Justice" on KTV published an investigation that provided details about the case.
