The appeal upholds the measures against the director of the KPK and his assistant

The Court of Appeal has decided to keep the director of the Secretariat of the Kosovo Prosecutorial Council, Lavdim Krasniqi, in custody for one month, and the measure of house arrest for his assistant, Marigona Berisha. Both were arrested days ago on suspicion of corruption.

The appeal has rejected the complaints of the defense, saying that "there is a well-founded suspicion that they have committed the criminal offences, for which they are suspected, and there are also special circumstances that make it credible to fear that by finding them at liberty, they may hinder the normal course of the criminal procedure or repeat the criminal offense".

Krasniqi is suspected of abuse of office, exercise of influence and assistance to the perpetrators after the commission of the criminal offense, while Berisha is suspected of the offense of not notifying the preparation of criminal offenses.

As the sources within the Basic Prosecutor's Office in Prishtina have told TIME, Krasniqi had accepted a car worth about 20 euros, manufactured in 2019, from a person with a criminal past in order to close a case at the prosecutor's office that is in ongoing procedure. The suspicions, according to sources close to the investigation, are that later this car accepted by Krasniqi has been owned by his assistant.
