One month of detention for the Serb suspected of attacking KFOR officials in Zveçan

The Basic Court in Pristina has ordered the defendant with the initials LD to be detained for one month on suspicion of having committed four criminal offenses, including the attack on KFOR officials during the protests in Zveçan in May 2023.

LD is suspected of the criminal offenses of "association for unconstitutional activity", "danger of persons under international protection", "participation in a crowd that commits a criminal offense and hooliganism" and "attack on an official person".

According to the Court, the defendant LD has been assessed that if he is released, he poses a risk of fleeing, given that he works in Serbia and may be elusive to the justice bodies in Kosovo.

"There is a suspicion based on the fact that on 29.05.2023, in the time interval from 06:00 to the evening hours, in the perimeter in which the object of the Municipality of Zveçan is located, the defendant LD together with other defendants took active part in the group or the crowd of persons, with the purpose of committing serious criminal offenses, in such a way that through the use of violence they tried to prevent the establishment of the constitutional order of the Republic of Kosovo in the northern municipalities of the country, so that despite the orders of soldiers of the peacekeeping mission of KFOR for peaceful dispersion of the crowd and refusal to enter the municipality facility, they have incited and started to exercise uncontrolled violence, using strong tools, improvised explosive devices and firearms , from which at least 30 (thirty) members of the peacekeeping forces of KFOR were injured, 3 (three) of them from the projectiles of firearms, as well as causing significant material damage to the vehicles of KFOR, the Police Kosovo and in the cars of journalists who have covered the events of this day, which include the complete burning of several vehicles or physical damage to a large extent, causing a high degree of danger to the lives and bodies of many people and property". it is stated in the reasoning of the Court for setting the measure of detention.
