The Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports, which will now become the Ministry of Sports and Youth, published on Friday the categorization of sports for 2026.
Unlike last year when there were only three federations in category A, this time there are a full six.

Letter to the Reader — Why We're Asking for Your Support ContributeIn addition to the Judo, Volleyball and Handball Federations, category A also includes the Kosovo Karate Federation, the Kosovo Football Federation and the Kosovo Basketball Federation.
The FFK is considered by most sports experts to be the number one federation in the country, but not according to the criteria for categorization.
The most highly ranked federation is Judo with 115,26 points. Due to its peak successes, the Judo Federation has been convincingly first in the categorization for many years.
The Karate Federation follows with 97,5 points. Last year, the Karate Federation was only sixth. The Karate Federation has moved the Volleyball Federation from second to third place, while the Handball Federation from third to fourth. The FVK has 88 points, while the FHK has 87,8 points.
The Football Federation is only fifth with 85,5 points. It was fifth last year, but in category B.
Meanwhile, the Basketball Federation is sixth with 85,3 points. With 84,3 points, last year it was fourth, but in B. Now it is in category A, although in sixth place.
The categorization determines the support, namely the money that federations receive from the state. The more points and the higher the category, the greater the support. But the categorization also has to do with the rating of sports at the national level.
For many years, the categorization of federations was done by the Kosovo Olympic Committee, while now it is done by the ministry.
In category B, only the Kosovo Boxing Federation is in the top spot. Boxing has 83,1 points, about two less than football and basketball.
In category C are the Athletics Federation, Table Tennis Federation, Aeronautics Federation and the School Sports Federation.
Other federations, including swimming and skiing, are in category D. A total of 37 sports federations have been categorized. And all of these are expected to benefit from the state budget.
The ministry now determines the value of the categorization point. And based on it, it is determined how much money sports federations receive from the state.
Federations have five days to file complaints. KOHA has learned that quite a few of them are expected to use this deadline and present facts that, in their opinion, deserve more points than they have been given.
On Thursday, the MCYS also published the categorization of athletes and coaches. While for the FFK, state revenues are not important, most federations have them as their main source. In fact, a good part of the federations function only with money allocated from the state purse.
