Nico Williams will not be moving to Barcelona.
The Spanish football star has decided to stay at Athletic Bilbao, signing a contract that will keep him at the club for another decade. He has signed a contract valid until 2035, while his release clause has been increased by over 50 percent.
Williams' previous contract was valid until 2027.
The Spanish international said he made the decision with all his heart. The 22-year-old plays as a winger and was expected to move to Barcelona. Bayern Munich have also been interested in his services. But Williams surprised everyone by signing a long-term contract with the club he grew up in on Friday. Williams has been with Athletic since 2013. He has already played 28 games for Spain and scored six goals. He has spent his entire career at Athletic Bilbao, apart from a spell at Basconia, where Athletic Bilbao trains players.
"When decisions need to be made, what matters most is my heart. I'm where I want to be, in my family, in my home," Williams said in the video through which the club announced the continuation of the collaboration.

Nico Williams will continue to wear the number 10.
