Yakin talks about Granit Xhaka's fighting spirit

Granit Xhaka - Murat Yakin

Coach Murat Yakin has spoken about the importance of Granit Xhaka to the Swiss national team.

The Swiss coach has not been stingy with praise for the Swiss captain, stressing that Xhaka is a true fighter.

Yakin said the words about Xhaka during the conference held on Thursday.

Sunderland captain Xhaka has recently returned from injury, but the 33-year-old midfielder has decided to join Switzerland for friendlies against Germany on March 27 and Norway on March 31.

"I am in very close contact with Granit, also about his injury. He is a fighter. At the European Championship in Germany, he played a whole match, despite an injury. We need him and I am happy that he can return in time," Yakin said.

He has confirmed that Xhaka can be spared during friendly matches, so as not to endanger his future.

"We still have to discuss how long he will play. We have the possibility to replace all the players. This allows us to manage the workload effectively during this critical period," Yakin said.

Xhaka holds the record for appearances for Switzerland. He has scored 16 goals in 143 matches.

Milan midfielder Ardon Jashari has also been invited to Switzerland for two matches this month.

Jashari last played for Switzerland in the friendly match on June 11 last year against the USA.

Yakin emphasized that Thun striker Kastriot Imeri is also on Switzerland's reserve list.
