Granit Xhaka scored from the penalty spot to lead Switzerland to a 2-0 victory over Sweden in Solna.

Xhaka has explained why he took responsibility for taking the penalty.

"With a performance like this on the road against Sweden you can take your hat off to the team. Usually I prefer the striker to take the penalty to boost his confidence. But Breel Embolo told me to take the shot. I used my experience to my advantage," said Xhaka.

"We have earned three well-deserved points. We had hoped for a start to the qualifiers like this and we have continued with the good performance of recent years," added the Swiss captain.
