A two-match suspension could mean the end of Taulant Xhaka's career, writes the major Swiss newspaper "Blick" on Tuesday.
The Swiss Football League, on Monday, initiated disciplinary proceedings against the 34-year-old Xhaka.
Xhaka was seen making inappropriate gestures during Basel's celebration on Sunday night. Basel celebrated their 21st Swiss title, when Xhaka lit a pyrotechnic device and made insulting remarks towards Zurich clubs.
"If Xhaka is suspended by the SFL for two matches, he will miss his farewell match," the Swiss newspaper writes.
Coach Fabio Celestini does not want to speak in detail on this topic.
"Currently, my focus is on the games against Lausanne and Young Boys. Then we'll see what happens," the Basel coach said of Xhaka. "But of course Taulant deserves the best opportunity to end his career."
The 34-year-old Xhaka will retire from football at the end of the season.
