What is Bayern's history with the cockatoo bird?

No Bayern celebration is complete without a cockatoo. Since the 2025 celebrations, this bird has become a curious cult figure at the Bavarian club. After Bayern won their 35th German title, Leon Goretzka brought out the porcelain figure again and presented it to the fans. The bird also appeared on the official championship shirts.

"He dominated the celebrations last year. He had to wait a long time before we let him out of his cage again," Goretzka told DAZN.

"He's back in action. He's drinking champagne."

But what is the story behind the decorative bird? The Bayern stars had "borrowed" the cockatoo, worth around 1000 euros, from the luxurious Munich restaurant "Kafer", during the championship title celebration in May last year. Later, the owner Michael Kafer, returned it as a gift.

"Since we became champions, he has been with us constantly. And every time we win titles, he will always be there," sporting director Christoph Freund had emphasized.

The bird of good luck was also present at the Super Cup triumph in August last year.
Goalkeeper Manuel Neuer explained at the time that the German champion's coaching staff was responsible for "housing" the decorative bird.

Lucky is he who has a cockatoo. The porcelain bird is anything but unlucky for Bayern.

Bayern secured their 35th German title on Sunday, four rounds before the end of the Bundesliga season. They are also in the semi-finals of the German Cup and the Champions League.
