Como defender Mërgim Vojvoda has achieved great success with Kosovo, advancing to League B of the UEFA Nations League for the first time in history. Kosovo won both of their League B play-off matches against Iceland with an aggregate score of 5:2. They will appear in League B in the next edition of the Nations League.
"Reaching League B of the Nations League is a great achievement and a source of great pride for our country," said Vojvoda.
In the first leg, played in Pristina on March 20, Kosovo won 2:1 thanks to goals from Lumbardh Dellova and Elvis Rexhbeçaj. Vojvoda played the full 80 minutes. In the return leg, played three days later in Murcia, Spain, Kosovo won 3:1 with a hat-trick from Vedat Muriqi. Vojvoda played the full 90 minutes in the return leg.
His contribution was greatly appreciated in Kosovo's historic success in League B of the UEFA Nations League.
The 30-year-old Kosovo international has scored two goals in 51 appearances since 2017. He plays as a right-back. But he has also often been deployed as a left-back. Vojvoda also spoke about his integration in Como.
Vojvoda's good moment with Kosovo could also serve Como well in the upcoming matches. After arriving at Como in February, Vojvoda made his Serie A debut against Napoli, then came close to scoring against Roma. In the away match against Roma, he hit the post in the last minutes. "Here in Como we work a lot on technique, possession and building the game from the back. It's a different approach compared to the national team, where there are other methods and a different style of play. But we are training well and now we are focused on the next home match against Empoli, where we want to work on everything the coach tells us," said Vojvoda.
