Switzerland appreciates Adrian Bajrami's determination

The director of the Swiss national football team, Pierluigi Tami, said that coach Murat Yakin has given Adrian Bajrami the opportunity to show his skills. Tami said that it is up to Bajrami to secure a place in Switzerland.

Switzerland will play two away matches in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers. They play Sweden on Friday and Slovenia three days later. Both matches count towards the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.

Bajrami, who was on Sylvinho's list in September, has been called up for the first time by coach Murat Yakin. Bajrami has only played in three friendlies for the Rossoneri. The 23-year-old left Benfica last month and now plays for Lucerne.

"He showed his interest in playing for us. Now Murat Yakini has given him this opportunity. We will see how it develops," Tami said at a press conference on Monday.

He also spoke about the departure of Albian Hajdari, Leon Avdullahu and Eman Kospo. The latter decided to represent Bosnia and Herzegovina, while Hajdari and Avdullahu decided to represent Kosovo.

"Most players play for us up to the U21 level. Then, sometimes, they move to another country if they are not invited by the Swiss adult team. Our motto is – step by step. Having dual citizenship should not be an advantage when it comes to an invitation to the Swiss team compared to a player who only has one passport. Sometimes there is an opportunity to become a regular starter for another country right away. The competition here is strong. I understand if players are looking for another path," Tami emphasized.

He emphasized that the results of Switzerland's last two matches are a great indicator of the growth of the Swiss national football team.

"We are very pleased with our start with these two victories. The goal is to confirm the level we showed against Kosovo and Slovenia," said Tami.

Switzerland won 4:0 against Kosovo and 3:0 against Slovenia. Switzerland can secure qualification for the World Cup this month.

After the first two matches, Switzerland has six points, followed by Kosovo with three, while Sweden and Slovenia have one each.
