"Adem Jashari" Stadium still far from completion

In February 2024, the complete renovation of the “Adem Jashari” stadium in Mitrovica resumed. The plan was for the renovation to be completed in 22 months. So, by the end of 2025 at the latest.

That deadline, as usual, was not respected.

Almost a year ago, on April 24, 2025, the then Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports, Hajrulla Çeku, visited the stadium on the banks of the Ibar River. He also expressed optimism that the work would be completed by the end of 2025.

"Within this year, the work is expected to be completed, giving the city a new, modern stadium, and at the same time the largest in the country - at the service of Mitrovica clubs, athletes and fans," Çeku wrote.

The "history" of the renovation of the large stadium in Mitrovica is quite long. After two initial renovations, which brought the stadium to a certain capacity, an additional contract was signed in September 2021, according to which the work should be completed in 2023.

But the stadium is not expected to be finished for many months, at least. On Tuesday, several construction vehicles, including trucks and excavators, were seen inside the stadium.

The roof of the central stand has long since been completely removed, while tall poles have been placed around the entire stadium that are expected to serve to cover all the stands. Work has also been carried out on the outside of the stadium, namely in the areas that are expected to serve as parking, but work is also being carried out on the parts of the stadium under the stands.

The work doesn't seem to be ending anytime soon.

"Adem Jashari" is not the only stadium that has begun to be renovated, and the process has lasted for many, many years. Few of the sports facilities have been completed, or renovated, within the deadlines.

And the work in many of the facilities has been done poorly. For example, the gym in Istog remains closed. And Mitrovica football fans have been waiting for many, many years to see important matches in the stadium they used to boast about.

For many years, the stadium has been known for its marathon renovations, not for any beautiful football matches or big victories.
