Xherdan Shaqiri has accepted with difficulty the 1:1 draw of Basel with St. Gallen. There were disallowed goals, red cards and flagrant fouls in Sunday's game. According to the Basel star, the team of referees, led by Lionel Tschudi, did not do their job well.

"It is unbelievable what decision the referee made. The goal should have been conceded", said Shaqiri, writes "20min.ch".

He referred to Anton Kades' disallowed goal. The goal was disallowed after Benie Traore hit Jordi Quintilla hard, just before the equaliser. The Basel player was shown a red card for that tackle, following a VAR review.

Shaqiri, who was one of the most active players on the field, has continued with criticism.

"The night before, we saw a very wrong decision in the Luzern - Lugano match, when the referee gave a penalty even though the interference happened outside the dangerous area".

According to Shaqiri, "in Switzerland we have to think if we really have the best referees. We need to develop further in this aspect. It's just that many wrong decisions were made, even though we have VAR".

He returned to Kade's goal, saying that it had to be accepted.

"It is clear that Traore touched the ball first. He slipped but went towards the ball. The opponent was too late. It is only natural that he then struck the opponent. For me it was a wrong decision", said Shaqiri.

But Swiss refereeing expert Stephen Klossner said Tschudi was right.

"It is the most difficult scene for the VAR and the referee. Traore jumped up and, risking a lot, hit the ball and Quintilla. Fortunately, I didn't have to make that decision," said Klossner.
Admir Mehmedi, Switzerland's other former player, has in a way agreed with Shaqiri.

"In terms of football, it's not a red card for me either. But according to the rules, it is. We can discuss this for a long time", said Mehmedi.

Basel dropped important points, but continues the interesting race for the title of champion in Switzerland.
