Fisnik Asllani's transfer to RB Leipzig seemed like a done deal. Leipzig had already informed Hoffenheim of their plan to activate the player's €25 million release clause, subject to a successful medical. But the striker failed that very test, Bild reported on Saturday.
Asllani underwent a medical in Salzburg on Thursday. But instead of traveling to Leipzig's training camp in Saalfelden and signing a contract until 2031, the deal was canceled. According to Hoffenheim, the reason for the cancellation is "a medical concern" presented by Leipzig.
Leipzig and Hoffenheim are opposed to each other, the well-known German media outlet writes. RB Leipzig declined to comment on the exact reasons when asked. At Leipzig, according to "Bild", doctors are afraid of the striker's long-term absence and that the concerns are not overcome by a quick rehabilitation.
At Hoffenheim they assess it differently. At this club they say that Leipzig's concerns are greatly exaggerated. Last season shows this. Asllani played in 35 of the team's 36 matches in all competitions.
Now the Kosovo representative joins training with Hoffenheim on Tuesday.
