Napoli president proposes 'revolution' in international football

Aurelio De Laurentiis

Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis has proposed changing the "rules of the game and league formats", calling for players to only be allowed to play for their national teams until they are 23 years old.

Amir Rrahmani, the captain of Kosovo, plays for Napoli.

"There are a lot of matches and I think that footballers will no longer be able to play 50, 60 or 70 matches during a season. Football leaders have not understood that there should be a limit to the players who are part of the representatives. Once you turn 23, you can no longer go with the representative team because new players have to be discovered," De Laurentiis told "Class CNBC".

He added that player injuries during national team training camps are harming European clubs and leagues.

Rrahmani has not played in the last seven games for Napoli. He was injured while on the Kosovo squad for the September matches.
