The scandal of Slavia Prague fans, who interrupted the big derby with Sparta Prague just before the end, has caused a stir. When the celebration for the championship title was expected to start, Slavia fans invaded the field on Saturday night. But the match had not yet ended when the fans entered the field holding pyrotechnic devices in their hands. Slavia Prague players, for whom Albion Rrahmani plays, were attacked.
But this was not the only match to be abandoned on Saturday. Due to the riots caused by fans, the big Slovenian derby between Maribor and Olimpija Ljubljana was also abandoned on Saturday. The match was in the 34th round of the Slovenian top flight, and was abandoned in the 52nd minute when Olimpija was leading 1:0.
In addition to insults, Maribor fans threw pyrotechnic devices onto the field of play, which led to the interruption.
The match was initially stopped in the 36th minute due to attacks by fans with pyrotechnic devices.
After 20 minutes, the match continued, but in the 52nd minute, the fans escalated again. This time, Olimpija's goalkeeper, Matevž Vidovšek, was hit in the head. The second interruption came, which turned out to be decisive.
"One of the thrown objects exploded near my ear. It is unacceptable that we players are being targeted. Our health was at risk. If I had been hit in the eye, I could have been blinded. I don't think it's fair," Vidovshek said.
Olimpija coach Federico Bessone stressed that it is sad that a big derby ends in this way.
