After five seasons in La Liga, Mallorca will compete in the second Spanish division next season. Vedat Muriqi was part of the team during all five seasons and the chances are not great that he will remain in the team that will play in the second division of Spain.
This is actually not something that can be asked of a striker who scored 23 goals in the Spanish top flight. Muriqi excelled, but Mallorca did not keep up with his pace. And now, most likely, the 32-year-old will score goals for another team.
But how did Mallorca end up leaving La Liga, just two years after reaching the King's Cup final and despite the Kosovar's superb form?
On 6 April 2024, Mallorca lost only in extra time to Athletic Bilbao in the Spanish Cup final. In January 2025, they also appeared in the Spanish Super Cup tournament, held in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. And will now compete in the Spanish second division.
Mallorca fans are demanding the club's management leave. And the sporting aspect is turning out not to be the only reason for Mallorca's exit from La Liga.

Muriqi among the 50 best players in Europe
The media outlet close to the club, Diario de Mallorca, has presented a series of "off-field" issues that contributed to the decline.
"Sporting errors, institutional breakdown and discord with fans have sent the club from appearing in the Super Cup tournament to the Second Division within 18 months," this medium wrote.

Two important players were transferred, but there were also many doubts. The season started badly, while some refereeing decisions went against them.
There were also internal clashes, especially related to former captain Dani Rodriguez.
Results were lacking and fan dissatisfaction was growing. And demands for the board of directors to be removed became more frequent.

Muriqi nominated for best player in La Liga
Coach Jagoba Arrasate was fired and replaced by Martin Demichelis. The change seemed to work at first, but with 12 laps to go it was too late. With Demichelis, the team got half of the possible points, which was not enough. Mallorca lost matches against their direct rivals and this was decisive in the end.
Injuries and controversial decisions also contributed to painful losses.
And all of this meant that victory in the last round was not enough for Mallorca. Before the match with Oviedo on Saturday, coach Demichelis pointed the finger at Albanian defender Marash Kumbulla. Kumbulla then responded in another internal clash.
"With tears in our eyes and pain in our hearts, we must accept a very heavy blow. I know what it means. We know it hurts. And we understand the anger, sadness and disappointment of every resident of Mallorca. For this reason we can only apologize. It is time to accept it, get up and start over. With more responsibility than ever," Mallorca wrote in a post.
