Chilean club Colo-Colo is seeking permission for young goalkeeper Vozinha to use his football nickname on his shirt when he makes his debut next month. Rules in the South American country prohibit this.
The 40-year-old became a World Cup sensation thanks to his impressive performances for Cape Verde. After his performances for the small African nation and global fame on social media, Vozinha will play for six months at the famous Chilean club, Colo-Colo.
The rules of the Chilean league do not allow players to use nicknames on their jerseys. According to the rules, only the father's or mother's surname is allowed on the jerseys. The surname can be supplemented with the initials of the first name.
The rules clearly prohibit the use of nicknames on the jersey.
But there have been previous exceptions granted by the country's football authorities. Colo-Colo hopes the veteran goalkeeper will be allowed to use the nickname Vozinha, by which he became known around the world. His real name is Josimar Jose Emora Dias.
"We have this problem. I spoke to the league leaders and the signs are good. There is a Council of Presidents, which has been called for a meeting on Friday. I have spoken to some presidents of other clubs and they have shown me their favorable attitude for him to play under the name Vozinha, considering that he did so in the most important event in the world," said Colo-Colo president Anibal Mosa.

The nickname Vozinha means "little grandmother" in Portuguese. It was given to the goalkeeper by his older children when he was a child and would cry when he lost football matches in the street. Vozinha would return home to his grandparents, with whom he lived.
The agreement with Colo-Colo is valid for six months, with the possibility of extension for another year.
Vozinha recently made a career in the Portuguese second division. He has also played for clubs in Angola, Cyprus, Moldova and Slovakia. And he achieved global fame at the World Cup in the USA, Canada and Mexico.
