Jon Dahl Tomasson has been dismissed from his position as coach of the Swedish national team.
The decision by the Swedish Football Association was made on Tuesday after Sweden's second defeat by Kosovo.
Sweden lost in Pristina on September 8, and on Monday night in Gothenburg they lost 1:0 with a goal by Fisnik Asllani.
The Swedish Football Association said in a statement that the decision was based on a lack of results in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
Sweden has won just one point from four qualifying matches for the 2026 World Cup. It is last in Group B. Switzerland is first with ten points, while Kosovo is second with seven points. Slovenia is third with three points.
"The decision taken by the Swedish Football Association is based on the fact that the national team has not given the results we hoped for. There is still a chance for the playoffs and our responsibility is to ensure that we have the best possible conditions to reach the World Cup. In this regard, we believe that new leadership with a new coach is required," said the president of the Swedish Football Association, Simon Astrom.

Sweden national team manager Kim Kallstrom is confident that Sweden, with a new coach, can secure qualification for the 2026 World Cup.
"We have a group of players in whom we have great faith and we want to create new opportunities for them to produce results. We are confident that this team can go to the World Cup if there is a chance to secure the play-offs that are played in March. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Tomasson. He has been professional in his relationship with the players, the team management and the Federation. It is always bittersweet to part ways, but football is based on results and we have reached a point where results are not enough," said Kallstrom.
Tomasson had taken over the reins of Sweden in 2024.
