Olmo responds to Ayala: You're lying

Dani Olmo

Dani Olmo has hit back at former Argentina defender Roberto Ayala, who hit the Spanish midfielder after the World Cup final.

Spain won 1:0 against Argentina, and after the match, Argentine players and staff hit several Spanish players.

Ayala hit Olmo, and has since apologized for the action. Ayala is one of the coaches in Argentina.

"Someone who says he's sorry and justifies the punch by saying it was a response to a comment I made, I'm sure he's not sorry, because he's lying. I didn't say anything to him and he doesn't need to apologize to me," Olmo declared, AS wrote on Sunday.

Olmo said he was proud that Spain played beautiful football and the victory was deserved.

"What defines us is not the mistake, but the courage to accept everything with humility, sincerity and dignity. I want the children, my family and so many fans who watched the game to be proud of how we competed, how we won and above all, how we behaved. The importance of football is that we are a role model for children and future generations, and we have a responsibility for this," Olmo stressed.

Olmo was one of Spain's best in their second World Cup triumph.
