Muslija has Neuer as a role model, aims to guard Switzerland's goal

Gentrit Muslija

Gentri Muslija is considered one of the most talented goalkeepers in Swiss football. On Thursday, the major Swiss newspaper, "Blick", dedicated a long article to the 20-year-old.

Muslija is a member of St. Gallen, on loan at second-tier Wili. His loan period ends next month.

Muslija has played for all of Switzerland's youth age groups, and has already made his debut for the U21 national team.

With St. Gallen, the Albanian goalkeeper has a contract until the summer of 2028. He has been on loan at Wili since February last year, and the possibility of remaining with this team is not ruled out.

In December, the International Centre for Sports Studies (CIES) rated Muslija as one of the ten best U20 goalkeepers outside of the top five European leagues.

"I saw this and felt very honored. It's good when the work you do is recognized and rewarded," Muslija told "Blick."

He is known for his footwork, even though he is a goalkeeper. He is in the top 20 in the Swiss second division for completed passes.

As a child he was not a goalkeeper, but decided to stay between the posts when he saw Manuel Neuer's performance in the Champions League final that Bayern had played against Dortmund.

Neuer is one of Gentry's role models.

"Bayern would be a dream come true. The Bundesliga really suits me, or La Liga," says Muslija.

According to "Blick", goalkeeper Muslija hopes to be invited by Switzerland A.

"I believe this is every player's goal," he said.

Kosovo's first goalkeeper, Arijanet Muriq, grew up in Switzerland. The second goalkeeper, Amir Shaipi, still plays in Switzerland. Meanwhile, no Albanian has yet managed to be a goalkeeper for Switzerland A. This could change soon.

In the Challenge League, Muslija has 35 appearances this season. He also has two appearances in the Cup. The second Swiss category is full of Albanian footballers.
