Messi posts emotional post after father's death: I doubt I'll last long

Lionel Messi

Football superstar Lionel Messi has made an emotional post on social media following the death of his father.

Messi's father, Jorge, died last week after battling an illness for some time.

"Dad, I still can't believe you're gone. I still haven't understood it, or rather, I don't want to. It's so hard to imagine that I won't see you again, that we won't talk anymore. I know you were suffering and it's better this way, but you left too soon. We still had so many things to enjoy together," Messi wrote.

Messi has revealed that his father had asked him to play in the World Cup and that just a few days before the start of the World Cup, he was very sad.

"It was the first time he wasn't going to be on a tour, but mom kept telling me he would be better and that he would be well enough to travel. I kept telling you we were going to the finals, so you could be too."

Messi wrote that after every match he missed his father's message and that's how he understood how serious the situation was. He says that he never felt good at the World Cup.

"I don't know what I'll do without you, I don't know how to continue. I've only played football and now I seriously doubt I'll be able to continue for long. If you were by my side from the beginning, there was so little time until the end. Why couldn't you have stayed a little longer and we would have finished together? I know that your happiness came from watching your family, your wife, your children, and above all, without anyone understanding, watching me play... It was always like this. You sent me to every training session right after you got home from work. My mother sent me to many more because she was working," Messi wrote.

The Argentine superstar wrote that his father was never wrong.

"In the end, things always worked out the way you said. I will miss you a lot, but you will always be present, especially in raising my children. I teach and raise them as you raised me. Rest in peace and watch over us from above as you did here. Thank you for everything. I love you dad," Messi wrote.
