The tragic death of Diogo Jota has shocked the football world. Jota died in the early hours of Thursday in a car accident in Spain. The Portuguese was travelling to England, where he was due to join Liverpool for training.

Citing Portuguese media, the German newspaper wrote that the wife of the late Jota, Rute Cardoso, will receive the wages according to the contract that Jota had with Liverpool. He had a monthly salary of 583 thousand euros per month, or just over seven million euros per year. Thus, Jota's family will receive 14 million euros in salary. Jota had two more years of contract with Liverpool.
Most of Liverpool's players, as well as coach Arne Slot, have traveled to Portugal to pay their respects to Jota and attend the funeral ceremonies.
Jota was a Liverpool player for five years. The club has retired the number 20 shirt worn by the Portuguese.
