The Romanian legend Ilie Dumitrescu has ordered the fans who will be present at the "National Arena" in Bucharest on Friday to applaud the Kosovo anthem.
The match Romania - Kosovo is played on Friday from 20:45 and belongs to Group 2 of League C of the League of Nations. It was feared that the tensions of September 2023 could be repeated, when in the confrontation between these two countries, Romanian fans displayed slogans and chanted against Kosovo, for which the match was interrupted for 40 minutes.
But former Romanian representative Dumitrescu, who also played for Tottenham and West Ham, wants the present fans to teach the Kosovars a lesson as "revenge" for the whistles that the Romanian players had in "Fadil Vokrri" two months ago.
"I was thinking about a scenario: when the anthem of the people of Kosovo is sung, let everyone applaud. So, in response to what they did (the whistles in Pristina). This is the right one. They offended us, we should applaud them, something like that, a lesson. That's how I would like it", said Dumitrescu, in digisport.ro.
Even the coach of Romania, Mircea Lucescu, has called on the Romanians to refrain from provocations in the stadium.
Romania is first with 12 points, Kosovo is second with nine points, while Cyprus is in third place with three points. The last without a point is Lithuania, the last opponent of Kosovo.
