La Liga has decided to keep the current regulation on hydration breaks in force for the new edition, not making the model that FIFA applied during the World Cup mandatory.
According to Spanish media outlet "Mundo Deportivo", breaks will only be allowed in cases of high temperatures, as stipulated by the regulations in force.
They may be authorised when the temperature predicted at the time of the match exceeds 30 degrees Celsius. The request must be submitted to the referee at least 30 minutes before the start of the match, while the final decision remains in his competence. If approved, two hydration breaks will be held, usually around the 30th minute of the first half and the 75th minute of the match. Each of them can last up to three minutes.
La Liga's decision comes after FIFA implemented mandatory hydration breaks in every World Cup match for the first time, regardless of the temperature.
