Iceland with new coach ahead of matches with Kosovo

Arnar Gunnlaugsson was named the new coach of the Iceland national team on Thursday, with whom Kosovo will play two matches in March.

Kosovo will play the playoff matches for inclusion in League B of the Nations League on March 20 and 23.

Initially, they will play at the "Fadil Vokrri" stadium in Pristina, while three days later they will face the Icelanders in Spain, namely at the "Enrique Roca" stadium in Murcia.

51-year-old Gunnlaugsson replaces 71-year-old Age Hareide, who retired in November.

He has been the coach of Vikingur Reykjavik since 2019.

The former striker, during his active career as a footballer, has played for well-known teams such as Feyenoord, Nurnberg, Bolton Wanderers, Leicester City and Stoke City, while also having 32 appearances for Iceland.

"I am looking forward to this exciting and challenging task. It is a great honor and a great responsibility to be the coach of the Icelandic national team. I am ready to take on the task," Gunnlaugsson told the official website of the Icelandic Football Association.
